The QUEST

Puroresu news update by Yuri “Quest” Takayama, #1 freelance puroresu reporter in Japan.

What’s new in Puroresu?:

-In recent news, the formation of the group involving Raizo Tenzan, Sinister Steven Lee, and Chi’ing, Chiang, and Chen of the Black Dragons has the Japanese wrestling world in a huff. The five men have a mission, and they seem determined to have everyone listening and watching to what they have to say and do. We’ll find more on this situation as the events unravel.

-It’s been rumored that The Star Hoshi Akagawa is branching her interests outside the wrestling ring. Hoshi is said to have appeared at numerous auditions for soap operas, films, and theater, as well as a number of photo shoots for magazines and commercials. When questioned about this backstage at the past Ikusa, Hoshi replied: “The Star is ready to shine, and she will shine all over Japan.”

-New talent to arrive? Mina de Margo has informed the press that they have made progress in signing a swell of new Japanese talent to the roster. Already the Suburban Ninja Clan, a 40 count clandestine of modern day ninjas, have made their appearance on PURE TV. Set to debut this week against Chase Hererra is Furinto Age, fresh young star and lightweight. I’ve had a few talks with this talent backstage and I know for a fact that he is energetic and eager to compete in PURE. Mina de Margo has disclosed the other names signed or in negotiations with PURE, but named off Naoki and Taji Sakabashi as new members of PURE. With these new Nihonjin on their way, the ratio of Japanese to gaijin is starting to favor in the name of Japan. It’s been a major factor on the success of PURE with so many gaijin superstars with sports entertainment backgrounds and some puroresu training, but things are taking a turn for the better with these new puro style competitors.

-Once again in the public eye is the Saikyo Senshi, Raizo Tenzan. Kamakura police pulled him over this weekend for speeding on the highway. When questioned, Tenzan replied he was late for a business meeting and to let him pass. Words were exchanged, and after detaining him for nearly a half hour on the side of the road, it was confirmed that he was indeed late for a meeting with executives from the Mild Seven tobacco company. That only cleared him of suspicion for known criminal activities that Raizo’s records have shown in the past as well as the present. He was served with a steady fine and a tarnish on his driver’s license before leaving.

Keeping with the story, Raizo Tenzan announced at a press conference later that day that Mild Seven tobacco will indeed become a main sponsor of PURE, putting up nearly 5, 900, 000 yen to the table per six month session. Mild Seven spokesman Hideo Suzuki said that they’ve been looking for a show to sponsor for months, and the proposal made my Tenzan was willing to be met by the company. Tenzan then announced that they would be shooting a commercial for Mild Seven starring himself that would debut at the PURE PPV Final Destinies.

-PURE announcer and owner and proprietor of Mori’s House of Sushi, Mori Morishigi, is rumored to be speaking with Ryo Sotosuki and Otoshi Mishimoto of the Sushi Crew about a possible endorsement deal for a new item on the menu, Sushi Crew Combo, basically a combination of sushi rolls at a value price. Neither Mori nor the Sushi Crew were available for comments.

My 100 Yen:

…or as they would say in America, “My Two Cents”. Here I give my opinion on the talent as well as the direction of PURE at the moment.

There’s a lot of negative reports about the individuality of PURE as a federation. Thing are starting out rocky indeed, but they are due to get better. The larger number of superstars with SE based experience recently is indeed a factor to the stray away from the traditional puro style, but with more and more puro workers coming in as well as the reigns of control tightened in the hands of Mina de Margo, the scene will change for the better. The show’s format will show an overall improvement, more matches booked on premise of skill and talent rather than gimmick and convenience.

Everyone on the PURE roster met for a meeting with Jamar Wilson and Mina de Margo about the changes due to be made for the company, and after questions and comments being made by Enmity, Raizo Tenzan, and Radiant, all queries were answered, and PURE wrestlers singled out were asked to work PURE style to their best instead of their former or recent styles. It was a fly right or fly out attitude to the entire meeting, Mina taking on a more serious and businesslike manner instead of her sociable fun one. Tenzan, though a rebel and trouble maker, expressed that he takes a personal interest in the success of PURE, and would take part in assisting his fellow wrestlers to transfer wrestling styles.

Lot of critics in the press say that PURE’s a cursed venture, going back to it’s first two runs, and this one beginning to falter like before. Rest assured that PURE will make it past its first PPV and move on to the second, third, and so on. PURE has reopened with fresh and new faces ready for their break, and not established superstars like other federations have had, like American companies OSW with Ivan Stanislav and PWC with Sebastian Toomes for example. These men are trying to step up to the plate, and are doing their best to take charge of this federation. In my opinion, they’re doing a good job as long as they give it everything they have and 100% more.

And that’s…my 100 yen.

That's all for now, but be sure to keep watch for more news reports, rumors, and opinions from Japan's #1 freelance puroresu reporter, Yuri "Quest" Takayama

The Ratings Analysis #1 by Jamar Wilson

The Ratings Analysis #1
by Jamar Wilson

Just because I'm overseas handling PURE from a DESK doesn't mean I don't keep an active following on what's going on with my federation. I am often tuning in my TV every Sunday to view the product that I spend so much hard work cultivating via the corporate offices in Tokyo, Japan here in PURE Studios.

With that in mind, I felt the necessity to send a "ratings analysis" of what I have observed with my roster and other subjects about PURE. I plan to keep my feelings blunt and pretty simple so people catch my meaning for reals. :p Anyways...my "analysis" on a few subjects...

Enmity & His Attitude-The man is an amazing athlete, no doubt. He rips up the ring with his awesome blend of intense, high impact moves, furious submissions, and occasional high flying...with youth on his side and time, he will BE the man in PURE. His attitude however keeps that from happening, breaking roster members left and right. If he can get his temper in check...like it or not...he will be the man...but that's easier said then done.

Radiant-Defintely made an impression amongst MANY people recently and is a welcome addition to our roster. Barring injury or backstage problems, expect him to make major waves.

Mina's "Main Event" Suspension for Enmity-It was the right thing...but I hope she can deal with the reprecussions.

The Main Event Scene-Turned out much better then I had expected. Steven Lee brings an unseen aura to the ring here in PURE, Mandrake is a sudden wild card that just took to the fans immediately, Ramey is a vet with the crowd on his side...would add Enmity, but he's got a suspension to serve,

Trinity Team Scene-I put my ass out to see this division get airtime...they better return the favor.

All-Asia Championship-Will become to PURE what the IC title was to the WWE...before they started crapping on it.

The JR.Weights-Nice field, unique, could be the best JR.Weight division anywhere...but they need to let people know they are alive, can wrestle, and have show factors about them that can draw fans.

The PURE World Title-Will be a prestigious event when we finally crown the first EVER champ. The man with the most fighting spirit will have it.

Doubters Of PURE-We have failed...yes. We earned their snide remarks. I hope that our improved product will silence them for our past failures.

Future of PPV-Been talking to soem providers and have the perfect first PPV location...will be quite the event. Set your VCR's boyo's ;)

My Problems With The Federation-Wrestlers who want to give up on us because we're not "OSW" or "PCW" level yet. Put in some work, give us a shot, give us your all...we'll get there.

My Opinion on PURE's outlook-We will turn heads slowly...it won't be with big fanfare a'la PWC...but we'll gain respect slowly but surely.

Wrestlers Set For Big Things-"Sinister" Steven Lee, Enmity, Ramey, Mandrake, Sushi Crew, Radiant, "The Professional" Isao Asai, Senji Yulav, Kohana, S2, Jason Marah, "Showtime" Erik Blake, Chase Herrera with soem dedication

Guys I Wanna See Make It...But Have Me Worried-Black Dragons, Vito Wynn, Peter Perez at times, but he's doing well, Nu Era, Hoshi Akagawa, BladeD

Guys On Watch...And Your Clock Is Ticking-No one yet...lets keep it that way.

UPN-Came along at the right time.

For the fans, stick with us....we will not fail to impress. The roster...work hard, and the spotlight will be on you. The outside world has a watchful eye on us...especially given our rep. Show em' what we're working with. :) Staff, solid job as usual, don't know what I'd do without ya. Until next time...

HOLLA!

PURE “IKUSA”, 1/19/03
Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium
11,357 Fans

Big News: Enmity is still in PURE, and is still an asshole. He wants to be champion, and is still an asshole. Radiant confronts a Reporter that knows a little too much about him, and Enmity is still an asshole.

Title Changes: None changed.

Alignment Changes: No one changed.

Best Match: Steven Lee D. Jesse Ramey. I never thought I’d see Ramey wrestle again, especially in Japan after his last run here. Ramey has the advantage easily in this match with experience alone, Lee just coming out of Wrestling School. Lee took an awful long time to get to the ring, and what’s with these Pyrotechnics? Ramey got some Pyrotechnics and made the introductions even longer, I could sense people turning away already. The match finally did under way after nearly five minutes of introductions. Match was fairly quick paced, which is good for a main event. They go into the turnbuckles and work each other over there, Ramey looked impressive here; selling everything well. Steven Lee lives up to his nickname, though, punching Ramey cheaply a few times throughout the opening five minutes. Lee should have been disqualified after purposely hitting Jesse Ramey in the nether-regions. If Steven Lee’s goals in PURE is to be as dishonourable as possible, he’s doing a very good job of it. They go back and forth for awhile, each one getting in some good Aerial and Technical moves. Steven Lee got the pinfall after a Neckbreaker on a very sore and bruised Jesse Ramey. Time: 11:09.

Worst Match: Isao Asai D. Derge. That match was just…blah. Nothing too interesting to get the crowd into this match. Asai did look good since he is quite late to get into Puroresu professionally. Asai showed off some Martial Arts skill with a few Side-Kicks dodged by Derge. The PURE fans witnessed one of Japan’s most favourite wrestling moves, in the Shotei. Asai was trying his hardest to get the fans into the match. Asai and Derge went into a test of strength, pushing each other down to the mat at least once. Derge was slightly stronger than Asai, but that’s about all he won in this match. Asai looked good until he missed the Moonsault, allowing Derge to lock in a Gyakuebigatame. Asai made it to the ropes easily, and finished the match off with a stiff Vertical Piledriver. Time: 6:49.

Breakdown of the Show: Show began with Jamar Wilson, American PURE Owner, making his way to ringside. He announces that Mina De Margo, manager of former PURE Star Inphino Blitz, will be in charge of PURE’s operations. Resident PURE bad boy, Enmity, suddenly interrupts Mina. Enmity cuts a good promo on Mina De Margo, that is until she announces that he is suspended from the Main Event. The crowd pops loudly for this, as no one wants to see Enmity. A Peter Perez video package was played, showing us a little insight into Mr. Perez. Enmity is seen once again, this time talking to PCW Load, Eddie Mandrake. This piece between these two, at least, I felt was not needed. Pete Perez took on Vito Wynn in the first match of the night, and under Mixed Martial-arts Rules. Perez wins after a Side-Volley kick to Wynn’s head. Shaun Style’s went to the offices of Jamar Wilson, the first in three segments with the owner of Puroresu Ultimate Ring Entertainment. Senji Yulav and Kohana, two new PURE signe’s had a short little piece together, most viewers felt that was not overly important. Kohana & “The Infantry Man” BladeD took on “The Universal Outlaw” Senji Yulav & Raizo Tenzan. Tenzan and Yulav picked up the win over Kohana and PCW touring member, BladeD. Another Shaun Style’s segment, but this time with Mina de Margo. After the Styles and Mina segment, we moved onto the Masked wrestler, Radiant. Radiant was scheduled to hold a press conference last week, but due to circumstances out of his control, he was not able to make it. Following Radiant’s interesting segment was the Five-Way elimination match featuring Suicidal Stevenson, Radiant, Erik Blake, Hoshi Akagawa and Chase Herrera. Akagawa was eliminated at 2:11, Chase at 3:01 was eliminated, at 5:32 Erik Blake was eliminated and finally; S2 was eliminated following a “Tekiya” from Radiant. A Six-Man Tag Team match was scheduled, but Enmity charged into the ring and tried to kill someone. Jesse Ramey and Steven Lee had a slight confrontation involving a Food-Vendor. We found out that Steven Lee is another one of the Sports-Entertainment fools, oh joy. Derge took on Isao Asai following this, their match was even but Asai was far better than Derge; picking up the win with a Vertical Piledriver. Yet another Shaun Style’s promo followed this. The Main Event was next up, with Steven Lee picking up the win following a Neckbreaker onto Jesse Ramey’s already sore neck.

Moment of the Show: Enmity interrupting Mina de Margo at the start of the show was well done by Miss de Margo and Enmity.

Quick Results: Peter Perez D. Vito Wynn; "The Universal Outlaw" Senji Yulav & Raizo Tenzan D. "The Infantry Man" BladeD & Kohana; Radiant D. S2, Chase Herrera, Hoshi Akagawa & "Showtime" Erik Blake; "The Professional" Isao Asai D. Derge; Nu Era and The Black Dragons vs. Bad Company & The Sushi Crew /Mystery; Steven Lee D. Jesse Ramey.

Until Next Time,
Keitaro Fukuwura.
